Dr Rifenbery has been involved in several charetable programs both to serve the needy and to help train other surgical specialists in current and leading edge surgical techniques 

- November 2018  Training mission to the Republic of Maldives, an island nation in the Indian Ocean.  Dr Rifenbery has been invited to train surgeons in the  Maldives in surgical techniques for access to the lumbar spine.  These are exposures that are needed for complex neurosurgery and orthopedic spine procedures.

- February 2018  Training mission to Nepal.  Dr Rifenbery traveled to Kathmandu to train a group of surgeons in surgical techniques including access for lumbar spine surgery.  These are exposures that are needed for complex neurosurgical spine procedures



- January 2017  Mission trip to Guatemala.  Dr Rifenbery traveled to Guatemala to serve at a rural hospital operated by the Catholic Church.  He operated on 51 patients for a wide variety of surgical problems, all at no cost to the patients.



- February 2013  Mission trip to Palenque, Mexico.  Dr Rifenbery traveled to Palenque in southern Mexico to a rural hospital.  This program was sponsored by Mexico Medical Missions.  He operated on many native people who had very limited access to surgical care.


-From 2006 to 2012 Dr Rifenbery served as the medical director for an annual church sponsored house building trip to Tecate, Mexico. Upwards of 100 highschool students traveled to Mexico on each trip.  At least 35 houses were constructed for destitute families during this 7 year cycle.                                                                                                  



-Courage Classic-  For 10 years starting in the late 1990s, Dr Rifenbery rode his bicycle on the annual Courage Classic ride.   It is an arduous ride of 3 days and over 200 miles, traveling over Snoqualimie, Blewit and Stevens Passes.  This donation ride benefiting Mary Bridge Childrens Hospital, brought in almost $20,000 by direct donations to Dr Rifenbery..



-Tacoma Trauma Trust.  Dr Rifenbery, along with two partners and in cooperation with Pierce County and both Multicare and St Joseph Medical Center, created the Pierce County Trauma System.  After two years of planing the system opened in 2000.  Dr Rifenbery served as the managing partner of Southwest Washington Trauma Services and as a membrer of the Trauma Trust Board, until the system was incorporated into the hospitals.  The system has grown and continues to be a huge sucess, with thousands of patients treated and lives saved.
