James Rifenbery, MD, FACS, is the board-certified general and laparoscopic surgeon at Laparoscopic Surgery NW in Tacoma, Washington. With skill and training patients can trust, Dr. Rifenbery approaches every surgery utilizing the full weight of his knowledge and experience, with every option considered and potentiality explored. After earning both his Bachelor of Arts and Doctor of Medicine at the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington, Dr. Rifenbery went on to complete his general surgery residency at Emanuel Hospital in Portland, Oregon.
In his quest to always provide the best care possible, Dr. Rifenbery continuously pursues advanced training so he can offer patients surgical techniques that help them get back to their lives quickly. He has advanced training in minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery, robotic surgery, and single-site robotic surgery and is FLS (Fundamentals of Laparoscopic Surgery) certified. Dr. Rifenbery also holds certification in Advanced Trauma Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support.
To further advance his skills and expertise, Dr. Rifenbery is also actively involved in many professional organizations, including the American Society of General Surgeons, the Washington State Medical Association, the Pierce County Medical Society, the Tacoma Surgical Club, the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons, and the British Columbia Surgical Society. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a Diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners.
